ABOUT Andrew Wilkinson

I am Creative Media Producer for graphic design, audio, video and imaging projects. Work with regional to international clients through creative agencies, client collaborations and independently as Wilkinson Media, (owned and operated since 2003). Prior work in London and New York in film and corporate design, clients included Disney, Virgin Interactive, and United Artists. Recent projects (photo-based) for Marvel, British Color Standard, Soul Selects Records, and The Capital Philharmonic of New Jersey. Currently composing audio for an indie film.

During the process of compiling this website, I began to think what my title my might be at this place in my career. Creative agencies have a structure with Art Directors, Creative Directors, and Production Staff. Since my experience overlaps, I felt that an in-between role could be labelled as Creative Media Producer.

Originally from U.K., Wilkinson relocated to the States in 1987. After studying Media, Communications and Technology at East Stroudsburg University he worked with film studios and film promotion in both Philadelphia and London. Wilkinson pursued a deeper understanding in corporate communications with design and graphics in New York and Hopewell, NJ. Wilkinson has worked with simple video production and programming, and directed his interest to two area of photography (portraits and products), design and music composition – focussing on the meaning, experience and resonance and a perspective on storytelling when necessary. Wilkinson works out of his studio in Trenton, New Jersey and on location.

ARTISTIC BIO / EXHIBITION HISTORY

Andrew Wilkinson is a student of perception, bridging culture and subculture with introspection, humor, and wit. Exhibiting for over fifteen years, Wilkinson continues to explore photography, media and public installation projects. His work has been shown regionally and internationally. Recent projects include a number of public installations for the community in the Trenton, New Jersey area through a series of grants from I AM TRENTON and Isles.

Formally trained in both fine art and media communications, Wilkinson combines both disciplines to create reconstructions of everyday objects into works that challenge perception and adding a familiar comfort. Iconic cultural imagery is gently reevaluated to encourage nostalgia from settled perceptions. Of his work, Wilkinson cites, “I am a custodian of identifying what was past and what is current, exploiting content into another accessible medium.”

Mainstream iconic pop images were drawn into Wilkinson’s new world after having moved to America from Southern England. Aspects of a new culture became amplified after moving to the USA and getting an introduction through watching American television. Everyday US culture such as: The Brady Bunch, The Monkees, the QVC Channel, K-mart, late night infomercials —  all became visually overwhelming. The output became art in the form of whichever media best suited the message.

Wilkinson’s work has been featured in the Jersey City Museum; Newark Library Prints Collection; Hudson Valley Center of Contemporary Art; Arizona Museum of Contemporary Art; Philadelphia Sculpture Gym; Arts Council of Princeton; D&R Greenway; Abington Arts Center; Artworks Trenton; Gallery 219 Trenton; West Windsor Arts Council; Ellarslie Museum; Trenton, among other venues overseas in the U.K., Russia and Beijing.
